China has built more than 1.6 million 5G base stations

According to the latest statistics of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of the end of April, China has built 1.615 million 5G base stations, becoming the first country in the world to build a 5G network on a large scale based on the independent networking model. 5G base stations account for 16% of the total number of mobile base stations.
Since the issuance of 5G licenses in June 2019, China's basic telecom operators have adhered to the principle of overall planning and moderate advancement, promoted co-construction and sharing, and made 5G network construction faster and more efficient. Statistics show that in 2021, 1.425 million 5G base stations have been opened in China, and the 5G network has covered all prefecture-level cities, more than 98% of counties and 80% of towns and towns, and the number of 5G mobile phone terminal connections has reached 518 million. In the first quarter of this year, 134,000 new 5G base stations were built.
In recent years, China's 5G key technological innovation breakthroughs have made new progress. The number of 5G standard essential patents declared by Chinese enterprises remains the world's leading.
